tiny house on wheels builders Down By The Riverside: CAF Open House at St. Mary's College of Maryland

Very few colleges are cool enough to offer regular course study AND a student-designed major appealing to a student’s own interests including Environmental Studies, Neuroscience, or Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. In fact, in recent years, some majors have included:

• Medieval and Renaissance Studies
• Translation Studies
• Archaeology and the Ancient World
• Studies in Adolescence
• and more!

For the past two years the schools has even offered an ongoing course in building a sustainable tiny house. It was THE perfect place for us to visit.

Founded in 1840, St. Mary's College of Maryland is a public honors college, offering an undergraduate liberal arts education and small-college experience like those found at exceptional private colleges. It shares the hallmarks of private institutions: an outstanding faculty, talented students, high academic standards, a challenging curriculum, small classes, a sense of community, and a spirit of intellectual inquiry. But as a state institution of higher education, St. Mary’s is also committed to the ideals of affordability, accessibility, and diversity.

Our passion is for education. We love having the opportunity to speak to and share with students about sustainable life choices. There is something so magical about seeing people tour our home, share in our experiences, and literally weigh their own personal choices. South Lenoir High School in Deep Run, NC, was no exception.

During the course of the school day we met nearly 650 high school students as they toured through our tiny house and asked questions about the choices we had made in order to live a more sustainable life.
